In my collection of interesting things
I have a French King made of stone
His name was Louis and he reigned
From 1558 to 1575 when he was lost at sea
But you will not find any record of this King
As from the day he was born he was cursed
And everything he attempted turned to powder
Nothing survived his dreadful touch
It was said that his boat was deliberately sunk
Although this has never been totally proved
But records show that he sailed in calm weather
And was drowned with twelve others not far from Calais
Louis was all but forgotten until March 1955
When a screaming pebble was washed up on a beach
It was moon shaped and clearly showed
The Kings scarred mouth and useless eye
It was kept under lock and key in a local museum
As it often screamed as if it had seen the Devil
On other occasions when photographed
It turned from a dull grey to an aggressive red
I purchased this stone illegally in 2004
And since that date it has remained quite silent
As if it is happy to have finally reached England
Although it still glows red on moonless lights
