WHEN I am dead and over me bright April
-
- Shakes out her rain-drenched hair,
- Tho’ you should lean above me broken-hearted,
-
- I shall not care.
-
I shall have peace, as leafy trees are peaceful
-
-
- When rain bends down the bough,
-
- And I shall be more silent and cold-hearted
-
- Than you are now.

Many have said that this poem by Sara Teasdale was her suicide note
But it was written some eighteen years before her suicide
The poem is called I Shall not Care
This was Richards favourite poem she kept a copy
In a silver box on her bedside table
Opposite her bed was a photograph of Sara Teasdale
Which had been captured in 1907
Richard wanted to share her sleep with the poet
But had noticed that her skin was turning blue
There was no reason for this and the condition baffled the doctors
They recommended strong sunlight so she went to California
