On the 19th of July 1870 France declared war on Prussia and by November Paris was under siege by the Prussian army

It was reported that the situation had become so desperate that dog meat was being sold at 2.5 francs a pound and that cat meat was being sold at 12 francs

On the 24th of November a man of letters named Isidore Ducasse died of a fever

 

In June 1972 I went to a London cinema to see a French movie

It was called L’Amour l’apres-midi and was largely shot in Paris

The city was portrayed as a joyful place full of curious people

 

However in one scene that was set on a busy city street

I noticed a tall lad with long dark hair staring into his coffee

His manner was dreamy and abstracted and he seemed obscure

 

This fascinated me an in August 2021 I visited this street

To see if I could find any cats and dogs of which there were none
