Yesterday whilst out walking
I saw two women dancing on the coastal path
They were a mother and daughter
Aged sixty years and thirty years
Both were called Elena
I was sitting in my standard chair
Near the grey pumice fields
When a priest and his beautiful sister
Passed me only pausing for cheerful greeting
They lived in the old house by the sea
And were the centre of the community
I adored the sister but knew of impossibility of love
The carpenter had brought his violin
And soon his music haunted the shores
A nun asked me to dance and I accepted
She was much shorter than me
But dainty in her exquisite manner
I could see the adoration in her eyes as we danced
This made me very happy as I was poor in my movement
In all about twelve couples were dancing on the sandy path
Some were young and others much older than me
I looked at the sun and then the moon which shared the sky
And knew this to be the day after eternity had ended
