The Unquiet Graves

For many years you rested at peace under the dark tower

Then your mother church was destroyed during the deep days of war

When peace returned only your tower remained as all else was lost

Your graves are still sheltered by God but the area remains open

And you share your eternity with those who pass without knowledge

St George’s Tower in Canterbury is all that remains of the church which was destroyed during the Baedeker Raids in June 1940. This tower was preserved as an historic landmark.

Two graves can be found directly under the open tower and are passed by thousands of people each day.
