Ben Nathan / Losing a Piano

Ben Nathan

Ben Nathan lives by the sea

He collects colourful sea shells

In his much cherished low hours

He then gives them to his sister Lou

Who displays them in a blue terracotta dish

Of late Ben has started collecting sea glass

Which he uses to create silver necklaces

With his Finnish girlfriend Val

Losing a Piano

When I went to bed late last night

You were next to me in your red bed shirt

But when I woke up this morning

I found a naked piano sleeping next to me

I took my piano on the tube today

And placed it next to the sliding doors

As I knew that our journey would be long

I had just finished reading the obituaries

In my cold morning newspaper

When I looked up and noticed

That my piano had changed into a harpsichord

I often take my piano to my naked yoga classes

Which are held in a low church hall opposite my flat

At first it was rather shy because of all the naked flesh

But it soon became used to it and all the naked members

Of the orchestra be they flutes tubas or drums
