There is a small village not far from Sandwich in Kent

It is called Worth and shares its name with the famous comedian

Worth is equally as lovely as Sandwich and wears its history well

There is a redundant red telephone box which is now a small library

And the ancient creek has been dammed to create a village pond

It is said that one of the local streams was used to drown Sandwich criminals

Whose lifeless bodies would be dragged out to sea on the tide

Whether this true or not is open to interpretation

At present I know not one person in Worth which is set to continue

As I do not tend to visit the village often indeed I first visited Worth

On the 21st of July 2022 with my beautiful Jane of the Red Manor

I had only previously travelled through the village on a bus and in my dreams

Jane wore a lovely summer dress which was just right for a gentle summers day

She was totally naked underneath but I tried to ignore this warm distraction

We retired to the Crispin Inn and sat in the ale garden watching the butterflies sing

A number of windfall apples lay on the rough lawns

This pleased Jane as she studied the fruits and the flowers near an aged barn

As we waited for our bus to Sandwich I sat on the raised kerb of the bus stop

I had often sat in this odd position at bus stops in rural Kent

Seeing life from a lower perspective I suppose is rather more interesting

Jane of the Red Manor was sitting on a low wall and from my position

I was able to see quite clearly where I would be spending the night
