After a day in the city 

We settled in a bus shelter 

In front of a grand theatre 

The children were fatigued 

So we sat on the warm paving stones 

Sharing our city picnic 

I was reading my Manchester United programmes 

Whilst Jacob was reading his football comics 

Lucy being Lucy was playing with Jacks a Plenty 

With various degrees of success

Gina G was checking the museums online 

To see their daily and monthly opening times 

Education and Recreation were always the foundations 

Of the Phillips family visits to the Golden City

This had not changed since I was a child
