A Nuclear Dream

It was only a short dream

No longer than five minutes long

Yet it was terrified me

I was living on a hill above a city

When in the distance

I saw a nuclear bomb explode at a thousand feet

As the city had been built in a volcanic basin

I knew that I had between three and five minutes

Before the percussion waves arrived in archangel street

Running like a crazy man I sent my neighbours into their bunkers

And then I joined my family in our bunker and sealed the door tightly

When the wave arrived we almost did not feel it but I was not fooled

As within a minute all communications had failed and we were left in a sunlit silence

It was then that I heard the migrating birds singing in a nearby tree

I knew then my nuclear dream was over
