Bus Shelter Poem (undated)

I have never been able

To work this one out

Why do we love LAND so much

It is nearly always about LAND

Fields Hills Mountains

Deserts Towns Cities

Rivers Seas and Dust

Husbands Die Brothers Die

Sons Die Daughters Die

Wives Die Many Die

Even this bus shelter suffered

During the last war when struck by a shell

It was totally destroyed and am sitting

In the replacement shelter

Writing this short poem

A short poem has been left in a bus shelter
between Sandwich and Deal every year since 1983
these poems are normally found in late September
and to date the poet has remained anonymous
