I was born in a cottage next to the Apple Estuary
My father was a fisherman
As was his father and his father before him
But I did not follow them on to the boats
As I had been given a rare musical talent
And was accepted into a Music School
Which shaped my glittering career
I am now a world famous composer
Having worked on many successful films
The cottage now is in my possession
And remains very much the same
As it was when I was a child
My father was drowned last year
When The Salt Path was lost
On the rocks off Apple Point
I now display his violin
In my small bedroom
And in his honour have purchased
A redundant fishing boat
Which I have named
The Salt Path and the Violin
