Today I purchased
The Complete Poems of Hart Crane
From a second hand bookshop
In Newton Abbot
This was a lucky find
As my train was seriously delayed
It was whilst reading Crane’s poetry
That a waitress in the buffet approached me
And expressed an interest in his work
We read together between tea toast and buns
And later went on a crime spree in the town
I was arrested in Dartmouth later that evening
And was charged with reading American poetry
To the impressionable buffet waitress
In court I pleaded guilty to all charges
And was fined five pounds
My book of poetry was also confiscated
Mai Mai is still on the run
And was last seen reading
The Complete Poems of Hart Crane
