I own and live on a railway station
A Heritage Railway uses this station
With my total approval as I love trains
I am a philosopher
A philosopher who loves trains
Three girls probably all under thirty
Are chatting on the opposite platform
In a way I felt sorry for them
As they are dressed in loose fitting clothes
In a effort to hide their excess weight
They may be victims of a lazy diet
But this is likely to effect their health
Nearby are some regular visitors
I do not know their names
Thin Girl and the Piebald
If anything I believe that they do not really eat
One is very tall and the other of average height
The smaller one has a large birthmark
On her forearm and another behind an ear
She may have others hidden and unseen
They are total opposites but they blend together
Not far from my residence in the signalbox
There is a lost gonk overlooking the lines
It is called Sidney Richard Gonk
And has been at the station for over six years
The gonk was found on a train in 2017
It was obviously lost by a grieving child
And that is why it is positioned in the plain sight
So that it might be seen by passing trains
But nobody has ever claimed ownership
I have written about this colourful gonk
In a couple of philosophical essays
My main question is do gonks feel loss
And does the invasion of time
Have any real influence
I have come to two opposite conclusions
Which I will not discuss here as they are of length
The steam train has just arrived and will depart shortly
I can see the three fat girls at the window of the carriage
They are beginning to eat again which is rather sad
I cannot see the piebald girl
But can just make out her tall friend
Who has remained on the platform
