At the top of Peg Road there was a furniture shop run by my uncle

It had been there since 1915 with Reg taking over in 1960

Reg Palmerston was my my fathers brother

My name is Stuart Palmerston

In my early twenties I often worked in the shop

So that I could save up to go travelling with Stella and George

It was whilst I was in Italy that I heard that Reg had died

This although very sad did not surprise me

As Reg was a heavy smoker and his health often suffered

But there was an even greater surprise when I returned to the UK

As I found out that I had been left the shop and his bungalow in his will

He had never married or had children and apart from my father

I was his nearest living relative and he treated me very much as his son

The following year I asked Stella to marry me and join me in the business

I sometimes wonder what might have happened if Reg had not died when he did

Would I have been able to provide an instant home for my beloved Stella

The business with a little help from my father went from strength to strength

And now I own a chain of shops across Norfolk and Suffolk
