I sometimes think that the wrong side won the war

When I survey the debris of our beloved city

To say that a decay has taken place

Is a great understatement

As it is far worse than that

We have been totally swamped

By the polluted tidal waves

Of successive years

You knew nothing about this

When you posed for your photograph

During the balmy summer of 1934
