Katherine Mills May Katherine Mills

A hippy party on the beach

Quickly descended into mayhem

I left the gathering then

As had no wish to get stoned or drunk

Katherine Mills lived in the flat above me

Eight Sedan Gardens in Putney

We rarely spoke to each other

Although I was aware that she was unemployed

I worked at the Lax Museum in Central London

And had done so since graduating from Kings

I enjoyed my work as it enabled me to travel

Around Europe at least twice a year

One evening in late May Katherine Mills

Knocked at my door in floods of tears

She had overdosed and was hysterical

I drove her to the hospital and stayed the night

When she was discharged and with her permission

I tasked myself to look after May Katherine Mills

Nurse Murphy was of a great help to me

This activity strangely centred my everyday life

I was due to attend a conference in Lisbon in August

And invited May Katherine Mills to travel with me

As I thought that it would greatly aid her recovery

We stayed at the White Hotel albeit in separate rooms
