The Last Bus

After leaving school I went to work for the Southern Counties Bus Company

I stayed there for over five years working mainly as a bus conductor

But later in administration at the main depot In Portsmouth

It was there that I met Maureen who later became my wife

Sadly when little Geraldine came along I was forced to look for more money

Which I achieved and I now work as a draughtsman at Stokes Brothers

It was because of this change of direction that we was soon able to buy a flat

Our flat was situated on a busy road and I was able to see the local buses passing by

Many were crewed by my ex colleagues and friends who I had kept in touch with

However of late I have noticed something that has really unnerved me

As I believe I have seen a ghost on the last bus of the day

Which returns empty to the depot with its lights dimmed

The figure who appears to be an middle aged man sits kerbside

In the same seat on the upper deck two from the back

He always looks up at me without expression as the bus passes by

I have spoken to my ex colleagues about this and they have assured me

That the ninety-one bus always runs empty after Empire Square

I have also been invited to ride on the final bus but have found it to be empty

Others aware of the story have also sat on the upper deck of this bus

But have reported nothing odd happening throughout the journey

The chilling thing is that I have clearly seen them pass my flat

Along with the middle aged man kerbside

Sitting In the same seat on the upper deck

Two steps from the back

Staring at me without expression
