As I walked beside a railway track no longer used

I found an interesting stone half hidden in the grass

Initially I thought it might have been pink granite

But then I noticed the pink hues deep in the marble

I knew then that my find was from the Midford Quarry

Which had closed between the wars with the seam spent

I could not believe that it had not been spotted before

As it was an interesting relic of the recent history of the area
