On a Hill in Folkestone

I was in the town yesterday

Walking down the

Old High Street

Where Dickens once trod

When I saw two nuns

Thy were very solemn

Even though the day was colourful

The older of the two nuns

Was dressed in brown

Whereas the younger one

Was wearing a blue veil

They were obviously Carmelite nuns

A younger nun and her chaperone

I think that I have got this

The right way round Martha

The nun with the blue veil

Is called a postulant

Or something similar

She has not taken her vows

But that is not the point

For as they passed me

I felt a peace

A real peace within my noisy complicated life

A sea change is taking place

Which you are aware of

Is there anybody in this country

Who is not aware of my life

Do I have all the answers

No not at all

I am far away

But I have been promised

I am told

A girl as fair

As a golden cornfield

Or it seems that way

Has God spoken to me

He is probably shouting at me

But I am not listening
