At times during the summer
The heat gets so intense in the city
That we spend our short nights naked
In the passage near the door
This is not uncommon
As I have seen my neighbours
Resting in their doorways
Searching for a breeze
There is little or no modesty
When the nights are as savage
As the scalding days
